this one i want to take the scheme inbetween the power lines and make that the overall background (the tower would be in the lower right corner)

First what version are you using because depending on which one your using will depend on certain tools.

for CS 3
for the first one = you could do a clone stamp of the texture..making sure not to go outside of the black of the apple..or you could get a grung textured brush from deviantart.com ether one should work.
For the btm one you load the photo up, and then go to edit -- transform -- scale
when doing this you can position the photo where you want it and edit the size of it.

those are some quick answers, that should work. there are some other ways of doing it but those are just a few :) enjoy bro and play around with it a little thats the best way to learn :)

You're first picture makes me sad, just because I like Ubuntu but I hate Apple.

Sure. That is a pretty sweet looking background, minus the apple ;)

And I'll help, just ask questions :D I know there are a couple of other users on here as well.

Don't be an apple hater :-)

You can also do a select on just the apple, and then apply a texture to that. There are a lot of distress tools/effects out there...

What is Apple but BSD with a fancy UI and a trendy cult? Shenanigans, I say, Shenanigans. If I wanted to hate using my computer because I'm running BSD, I'll just attempt to install BSD a few times and then quit. ;)

Ah.. Now let's be fair. It's much more than "Fancy UI". not everyone wants to use CL. It's a very stable platform that does things the way more users do. And let's be honest, the "trendy cult" is just happy users. What a concept.. people that will say the love a product because it works and does what they want. When was the last time you hear a Linux user (not a nerd) or Windoz users rave about how much the loved their OS? Just saying....

I never said my hatred for Apple made any logical sense. Just like my dislike for Sony. Neither have anything done any one things to turn me away from them, I just dislike them.

And by happy users I'm assuming you mean those who drink the kool-aid and are affected by the "Steve Jobs Reality Distortion Field" (RDF for short).

OK, I just wrote that to cause trouble. Still bothers me.

I do have a problem with the amount of ignorance about how secure the platform itself is. That's finally changing though, as people are getting hit with malware attacks now on their macs.

lolz.... i like how this has turned into a mac vs linux vs windows thread now....

okay well i got it all figured out and got the textures right, Rbust0 i'll put the original on photobucket or deviantart

also okay so like what are the main applications of linux? like i use it every so often to surf around the web when Win7 isn't connecting, and it gets better signal for some reason...
like do you use it for everything? like playing css and such, or just surfing the web, office tasks, and graphic art??

I'm glad you got it figured out Ned.

MY TURN!

As a guy who worked for a printshop that had both Macs and PC's I can tell you that after prolonged exposure: MACS ARE TROUBLE.
If you're a power user, Macs have parts that die, and then you can't fix them without shipping them off or (in our area) driving 45 min to the nearest apple store. I've seen two macs die in 2 months including a 'factory refurb' model that was supposed to be like new (was for the first month...) and a newer macbook. Were they PC's I would have ordered the parts, had them next day, and repaired them. But instead, the company lost dozens of hours of productivity per week for several weeks because our designers were/are 'mac users'. Sad day :(

Anyways, if I could afford a Mac, I still wouldn't get them; amazing service aside, it really is just BSD...although MOST of the time it mostly works...

Shenanigans I agree! Shenanigans!!!! The Cult of Jobs shall not have me join its ranks!

Yay Frog! Stay strong!

Ned:

I use it for almost everything but playing CS:S. I was using it for that but my mic didn't work since it requires an emulation layer that causes problems sometimes.

Internet: Google Chromium or Firefox or Opera. All great, stable browsers.
Office: OpenOffice.org comes standard and is pretty equivalent to Office '03 but if you absolutely need Office '07 for some reason, it can be run very well through WINE (wine-hq.org).

Graphics: The Gimp. Great program for what little graphics design I do, but I think all of the Adobe Suite can be run through Wine fairly successfully. Don't know for sure since I don't have it, and I'm too lazy to look it up.

There's an app for just about everything, and a large portion of games/Windows programs can be run through WINE with varying degrees of success.

Frog.. sorry to disagree but I've used both since they were born (8086 / Apple II) and while 10 years ago Macs had lots of custom parts that just isn't the case anymore. The use largely off the shelf components like hard drives, memory, etc. Mainboards are custom yes, but how often does a mac mainboard go bad? In 20 year, not very often. If you have a support plan with Apple it's 1-2 days tops to get it back in working order. Any business that relies on machines to make money should have backup hardware ready to go if needed.

Tech hardware is tech hardware. If a drive goes bad it isn't the Mac's fault (or the PC's). Just bad hardware. The OS is what most mac people enjoy. You aren't bogged down in endless garbage ware produced by 12 year olds with no concept of UI or Usability.

Spoken like a true kool-aid drinker ;)

OK, I'll stop. We'll just have to agree to disagree Insom. I mean I know you've probably forgotten more about computers than I've ever learned, but... this just made me lose a little respect for you....

OK, this is a joke. I kid. I love you Insom, even if you do use a Mac :D
